The short version

  • A cut with wash and styling runs 14 € to 28 €.
  • The combined cut and beard runs 25 € to 42 €.
  • At three week intervals, annual spend runs 300 € to 600 €.
  • Books of 5 or 10 services discount 10 to 20 per cent.

The price list on the wall answers most of it. What it usually leaves out is what is included and what gets added at the end.

What each rate covers

A cut usually includes washing, cutting, outline shaping and styling. Beard shaping covers outlining, trimming to the agreed length and finishing with product. A razor shave is a full service with hot towel, preparation and closing. What tends to be extra is a scalp treatment, a face mask and any product the customer takes home.

The annual arithmetic

With a fade that loses definition after 3 weeks, that is 17 visits a year. At 20 € a cut it comes to 340 €; with the beard included at 32 €, it comes to 544 €. A book of 10 services at 15 per cent off saves 50 € to 80 €. And stretching visits to 4 weeks, accepting a slightly less sharp cut, drops to 13 visits and saves a further 80 € to 130 €.

Differences by area and season

In central Palma and on the seafront, prices run 15 to 30 per cent above inland towns, because of premises costs and seasonal demand. Between June and September occupancy rises and it is worth booking 2 to 5 days ahead at the busier shops. Saturday mornings concentrate the highest demand and are the slot with the longest wait without an appointment.

Booking midweek in the morning usually means no wait and a more relaxed service.

What to ask before sitting down

Whether the wash is included or adds 3 € to 6 €. Whether beard outlining falls within the price of the cut or is billed as its own service. Whether the finishing product applied is charged separately. And whether there is a surcharge for out of hours service. Four questions taking 20 seconds that prevent the usual 8 € to 15 € gap between expectation and bill.
